The Chance Cosgrove Foundation was established following the untimely loss of of young Chance. His family and friends wanted to keep his spirit alive through the continued support of programs and charities that Chance himself was passionate about.
Since its inception, the following charities have benefited from donations in Chance’s name:
St. Baldricks Foundation-Chance participated in the St. Baldricks Fundraising Event which not only raised awareness and support for those afflicted with childhood cancer, but also funds to support cancer research. To date, our fundraising efforts have raised over $180,000 for the cause.
Rockland Hospice- provides palliative care to those who have reached end of life. Hospice provides one on one caregivers, medical supplies, nursing intervention, chaplain services, and support for family and friends. It is commonly referred to as “comfort care”.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Hudson Valley-grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since receiving its charter in 1986, The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Hudson Valley has granted the wishes of more than 1,800 children in the Hudson Valley region with life-threatening medical conditions. The Chance Cosgrove Memorial Fund proudly sponsored the fullfillment of a “wish” in 2011, 2013, and 2016.
Hi-Tor Animal Care Center-preserves and improves animal life, promotes responsible pet adoption and ownership, and provides humane treatment to all animals in their care. The mission of the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center reflects the love and compassion Chance had for animals.
Other programs that the Chance Cosgrove Memorial Fund is providing support to:
Pearl River High School-3 annual scholarships will be awarded to Pearl River graduates who best embody the spirit of Chance with regards to education, sports, and most importantly, volunteerism.
Pearl River Little League-Chance was an active participant in youth sports; but baseball was his passion. For the 2010 baseball season a much needed batting cage has been donated to the Pearl River Little League. Players will now have a safe place to warm up before their games. There has been a need for a batting cage for several years now with the increased use of metal bats. CCF continues to support the Little League who honors Chance’s memory by presenting one player each year with a sportsmanship trophy.
